Membership

What can the Canadian Institute of Management offer you?

When you become a member of the Institute, you join a national network of practicing managers.

Working together

The Institute aims to encourage mutual assistance among its members through the exchange of knowledge and shared experience in management techniques.

Educating and Developing Managers

In addition to providing opportunities for fellowship and social and professional networking, the Institute has long sponsored an eight-subject course of study, which leads to the well-known professional designation – C.I.M. (Certified in Management).

Many CIM students receive the Certificate in Supervisory Management after completing four of the eight Certificate courses: Introduction to Management; Business Law; Business Communication and one other approved course such as Marketing, Organizational Behaviour or Accounting. (See our educational equivalency page for more details on approved courses)

The CIM courses are available in classroom and online formats through the NSCC, local Universities and by correspondence or online at the University of Manitoba.

Over the years, many thousands of individuals from business, government, and a wide variety of industries have enhanced their careers by meeting our academic requirement, thereby earning a Certificate in Management & Administration and granted the C.I.M. designation through continuous membership in CIM.

More experienced managers may qualify for the P. Mgr. (Professional Manager) designation through a combination of work experience, documented high level responsibility and/or educational qualifications. Professional Managers are expected to adhere to a strict code of ethics and to take a leading role in shaping the future of the Institute.

The C. Mgr (Chartered Manager) designation is available to those who have achieved academic accomplishments in management beyond the CIM program and may apply these credits toward the 20 courses required for the C. Mgr designation.

Through periodic local seminars, workshops and meetings, and our nationally distributed publication – The Canadian Manager – published four times per year, you will be kept current with the latest management developments.
